CSIP-Aus Learning Lab

About, privacy and limitations

Important: educational simulator only

This is an independent educational simulator intended solely to help users learn about selected concepts and interactions associated with IEEE 2030.5, the SunSpec Common Smart Inverter Profile (CSIP) and CSIP-Aus.

It is NOT a real Utility Server, Aggregator Client, DER management system, reference implementation, conformance test tool or certification system.

The simulator uses fictional organisations, devices, sites, identifiers, communications and operational data. It does not communicate with or control any real electrical network, distributed energy resource, device, utility system or aggregator platform.

Do not enter private or sensitive information

Do not enter real customer information, National Metering Identifiers (NMIs), certificate details, credentials, private keys, operational data, confidential business information or other sensitive information.

Do not use this simulator as an implementation reference

Do not rely on this simulator, its source code, generated XML, simulated HTTP exchanges, controls, explanations or example data to design, implement, configure, commission, test, certify or operate a real system.

Always consult the applicable official standards, technical specifications, implementation requirements, and appropriately qualified professionals.

The simulator deliberately supports only a subset of the relevant standards and may contain simplifications, omissions, errors or outdated interpretations.

No affiliation or endorsement

This is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored, approved, endorsed or certified by IEEE, the SunSpec Alliance, CSIP-Aus, Standards Australia, any electrical utility, distribution network operator, aggregator, device manufacturer, technology provider, certification organisation or other industry participant.

Names of standards and organisations are included only to identify relevant external references.

No guarantees

The simulator and its information are provided ‘as is’, without guarantees or warranties regarding accuracy, completeness, currency, reliability, fitness for purpose, standards conformance, interoperability, availability or safety, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Use of the simulator is at the user’s own discretion. The simulator is intended for learning only.

Practice privacy and retention

Practice state is stored locally in IndexedDB in this browser: fictional registrations, changes, cached responses, clock/polling and history. Reload resumes this tab; inactivity expiry is 24 hours. Reset affects only this practice; clearing browser storage removes saved data.

Continue saved practice lists compatible unexpired local practices. Opening one creates a new independently editable, paused copy and preserves its source record. Historical lesson completion badges use separate localStorage keys, remain until storage is cleared, and are not current-practice evidence or certification.

There is no cross-device synchronisation. Do not use confidential information; the same browser profile can access/tamper with local data. The simulated server is logically authoritative within a practice, not a secure remote system.

Browser session restoration and tab locks affect resumption. Without Web Locks each reload starts an independent practice. Home preserves this tab’s handle. Normal website requests reach the hosting platform; external publishers have their own policies. No application accounts, analytics or external telemetry.

v0.4 copies valid v0.3 or v0.2 practice into a separately identified record, preserving the original record/handle for rollback. Earlier XML is retained, reload pauses virtual time, and deployment/rollback never erases browser storage.

Supported subset

Selected discovery, one fictional registration, capability/settings updates, DSO export controls, configured default, topology/primacy, virtual time, polling, subscriptions and simulated Notifications with bounded retries/reconciliation. Eleven guided lessons and optional single-user side-by-side viewing.

Nonnegative integer watts, no randomization or overlap within a program; no cross-program effective control is calculated. Cancellation/intervals do not prove execution or compliance.

Well-formed XML/application tests are not XSD validation or standards conformance. Matching normative XSD validation remains pending. MUP/MMR commissioning, telemetry, detailed control responses, shared rooms and real integration are omitted.
